![]() ![]() The most defining idea I found present in Sappho’s fragments was beauty through a woman’s eyes. It was a common question in class of should we even be allowed to assume Sappho’s meaning? After re-reading Sappho’s fragments a couple of times and trying to connect meaning through the poems I found I do not have to fill in the blanks but rather pick out a common theme that stuck out to me. The missing fragments forced me to create my own ideas of what belongs in those blanks, which is very difficult to do. My first attempt at the reading register for Tuesday was difficult because of the layout of the text. ![]() Summary: Anne Carson’s translation of If Not, Winter is an ambiguous collaboration of fragments by a musical genius, Sappho, who reflects the ideas of love, desire, marriage, and beauty through the eyes of a woman during Ancient Grecian Times. ![]()
